Medication Alternatives for High Blood Pressure

Medication Alternatives for High Blood Pressure

Medications for high blood pressure are not readily acceptable to anyone. The main reasons for this are fear of side effects of the drug, the hassle of using it for a long time, financial burden, fear of getting used to it, fear of what others will say and so on. There are two things to keep in mind before deciding whether to take medicine or not. First, do you have to take medicine right now? Second, can I keep my blood pressure under control through lifestyle and other means? The answer to the first question can be given by the doctor on the basis of various tests while the second depends on the discipline and confidence of the patient.

If the condition of taking medicine (e.g. heart / kidney / brain effect, excessive blood pressure, bleeding from any organ) has not occurred before the first visit to the doctor, then the person can try to control the blood pressure by improving the lifestyle in 3-6 months. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person.High blood pressure is the leading cause of death for more than 100 million people worldwide due to uncontrolled blood pressure. High blood pressure is not a deadly disease in itself, but it has become a major public health problem due to lack of timely diagnosis, proper treatment and prevention.

Blood pressure rises with age is a normal process. Most people over the age of 50 do not have normal blood pressure. High blood pressure due to unhealthy lifestyle, increasing mental stress, alcohol, cigarette consumption, pollution, etc. has become a normal process in today’s environment. So today it is necessary to use medicine to control blood pressure. There may be no second opinion on taking medicine than taking premature heart / brain / kidney disease without taking medicine. However, everyone may be able to reduce the dose or stop taking the medication by emphasizing non-prescription measures. General blood pressure, high blood pressure and all those who take medicine, if you follow these 5 measures, the benefit is certain.

1. Walking for 1 hour daily

Even a normal person has to walk for half an hour (3 kilometers) every day, but it is necessary to walk for 1 hour to control blood pressure. Extensive daily activity can lower blood pressure by 5-10 mm Hg. Off helps reduce mercury, which is equivalent to taking 1-2 tablets of medicine. The higher the blood pressure, the more beneficial it is to walk.Hard exercise can raise blood pressure. Walking is considered to be the best way to control blood pressure. It is better to walk a little faster, breathable and lightly sweaty. There are definitely benefits to walking slowly.Remember that every step you take has a positive effect on your blood pressure, so use your free time to walk. Hormones / chemicals produced in the body while walking help to lower blood pressure by having a positive effect on the heart and blood vessels.

2. Eating a healthy diet

Increase the use of fruits, vegetables, salads, etc. in the diet and reduce the use of greasy / sweet and salty foods by 5 to 10 mm of Hg can lower blood pressure. Eating less meat and more fish and more fibrous foods can help control blood pressure. Reducing the use of salt in food is considered to be an effective way to lower blood pressure. But using too little salt or not eating can be harmful. Salt (sodium) is considered essential for life. There can be many reasons for a person to have high blood pressure, but it is not wise to control blood pressure by reducing salt alone. It is imperative to use less salt.

For this it is necessary to use less salt in food, not to add salt and not to use readymade foods. Most canned foods are high in salt. Low salt intake helps control blood pressure and prevent other heart problems. Some foods are high in sodium even if they are not salty. So eating less outdoors and less salt in natural plant foods may be the best solution.

3. To reduce obesity

Obese people are more likely to have high blood pressure. Obese people also find it difficult to control their blood pressure. Research has confirmed that there is a direct relationship between a person’s weight and blood pressure. If you lose 10 kilograms, your blood pressure will be 10 mm of Hg decreases, which can be equivalent to the use of two drugs. If you are overweight, it can be very helpful to lose 5-10 kg in 6 to 12 months or 10 percent of your current weight as advised by your doctor. Weight loss will be followed by fatigue and constant tiredness. To lose weight it is important to eat low calorie foods and do more physical activity, which in turn helps lower blood pressure.

4. Stop drinking and smoking

Excessive alcohol consumption raises blood pressure and has an adverse effect on its control. There is a direct link between blood pressure and alcohol consumption. The more alcohol (of any kind) the higher the blood pressure. Another frightening relationship is seen between alcohol consumption, high blood pressure and stroke (brain hemorrhage). The number of people with high blood pressure and alcohol consumption is higher in Nepal. If the blood pressure is not under control, the risk of bleeding in the brain is very high if the person consumes too much alcohol. Therefore, it is advisable not to consume alcohol due to high blood pressure. Because it is under control, sometimes only 50 ml. Whiskey, 100 ml. Wine or 200 ml. Can’t use more than beer.

People who drink a lot of alcohol can stop using it and lower their blood pressure and avoid using drugs. Cigarette smoking raises blood pressure, each smoked cigarette 1 mm of Hg raises blood pressure. Cigarette smoking also neutralizes the effects of blood pressure medications. Ordinary people cannot smoke even if there is only one. For those with high blood pressure and medication, it is wise to quit smoking as soon as possible. Otherwise one day the same cigarette can cause a heart attack. As soon as you stop smoking / alcohol, your blood pressure is controlled and you can avoid using drugs.

5. Decreased mental stress

Nowadays, most young people (under 40 years of age) seem to have a sudden rise in blood pressure and mental stress is considered to be the main reason for this. The prevailing political and social situation in the country seems to have adversely affected the health of the youth. In such a situation, every person, responsible persons of the family organization should try to reduce the atmosphere of stress. One has to start with oneself first. It is necessary to change the nature and working style. It is important to adapt to the situation. You have to learn to reduce anger.

There are ways to reduce stress. You do not need to take medicine for high blood pressure due to stress, sometimes even if you use medicine for a short period of time, you can stop taking the medicine after the stress subsides. High blood pressure happens to all of us one day or another, it is a natural process for blood pressure to rise with age. Blood pressure can be controlled by making necessary lifestyle changes. By using the medicine on time, it is easy to reduce the amount of medicine if the above mentioned measures are adopted. If there is a good improvement in blood pressure later, the medicine can be stopped as per the advice of the doctor/Pharmacist.
