Important Heterocyclic Compounds Structure For Pharmacy Students
A heterocyclic compound is an organic compound in which one or more of the carbon atoms in the backbone of the molecule has been replaced by an atom other than carbon. Typical hetero atoms include nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur.
Examples of heterocyclic aromatic compounds are furan, a heterocyclic compound with a five-membered ring that includes a single oxygen atom, and pyridine, a heterocyclic compound with a six-membered ring containing one nitrogen atom. Many of these heterocyclic aromatic compounds are components of important biological molecules, such as the bases of DNA and RNA, and medicinal drugs.
Knowing the structure of heterocyclic compounds is very important for a pharmacy students, Medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy are very easy if you can memorize the structure of heterocyclic compound.
