Top 20 Commonly Dispensed Drugs with Essential Pharmacist Counseling Tips

Here are the top 20 commonly prescribed medications where pharmacists play a key role in providing crucial patient counseling during the dispensing.

  1. Amoxicillin (Antibiotic)

Counseling Tips: Complete the full course, take with food to avoid stomach upset, and report any signs of allergy.

  1. Atorvastatin (Cholesterol-Lowering)

Counseling Tips: Take at the same time each day, avoid grapefruit, and monitor for muscle pain or weakness.

  1. Metformin (Antidiabetic)

Counseling Tips: Take with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects, monitor blood sugar, and avoid excessive alcohol.

  1. Enalapril (Antihypertensive – ACE Inhibitor)

Counseling Tips: Take at the same time each day, avoid potassium supplements, and report persistent dry cough.

  1. Omeprazole (Proton Pump Inhibitor)

Counseling Tips: Take 30 minutes before meals, usually in the morning, and do not crush or chew the capsules.
